Not Dry Lake Bed and Lots of Flying Fun

October 24, 2017

This past weekend I made a trip out to the Dead Cow dry lake bed for the High Sierra Fly-In.  This is close to Herlong, CA. What a busy weekend! A significant cold front was due to pass thru the area on Thursday night and it sure did! The wind was howling all night. I… [Read More]

Race to Beat the Heat

Missy MCI bus conversion heat crossing race beat Vedauwoo Campground Wyoming

The Great Crossing was a success!  It was a race to beat the heat! However; it did not go exactly to plan. The 104 degree forecast for the campground near Platte, SD caused me to cancel my reservations and make this a marathon trip.  I am not much for heat – mix it with humidity… [Read More]

Rainwater Collection System

Missy 1998 MCI 102-EL3 coach bus conversion water leaks

I am very proud of my new rainwater collection system! It is working fantastically in the flooding rains that we are currently having! If you read my last post, you know that I started out to seal all the leaks in Missy. However; my work on those leaks – at least the neato strip LED… [Read More]

The Great Flood – and the leaks

Missy 1998 MCI 102-EL3 coach water leaks sealant flood

I’m currently in a location which I think God may have decided to destroy… again… with another flood. Obviously, LOTS of rain!! For a guy from the desert, it feels like the world is ending. However; it has proven to be an excellent test of the water proof-ness of Missy. Would she leak or would… [Read More]

Window Weather-stripping

Missy 1998 MCI 102-EL3 Window Weather stripping weather-stripping Big-D

There seem to be very few tasks on this conversion that are small and easy. An example is the weather-stripping around the windows. It is not obvious so probably worth mentioning, nearly every side window on Missy opens! That is a really cool deal! Get it?? Windows open – breeze blowing thru – “cool deal”??… [Read More]

How about some Clear Direction??

Clouds Clear Direction South Arrow

Are you like me and really struggle to hear clear direction from God?? Yesterday afternoon was spectacular!! The sun was warm, the breeze was whooshing thru the trees and all was well! I looked up and what did I see?? This: A great big arrow in the sky pointing south! I think I am getting… [Read More]

Newmar Dutch Star camping gunnison national forest winter cold heater solar snow

Winter??  In the Rocky Mountains!?!?!   I suppose it is possible…. I am high in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado and the nights are getting downright cool!  The heater and solar are doing their jobs and I am enjoying the change of season. I woke up one morning this week to a very light coating… [Read More]

Newmar Dutch Star Camping Boondocking Gunnison National Forest solar

Another amazing spot – this one in the Gunnison National Forest. I am setup near Brown’s Creek in the shadow of Mount Antero and Mount Princeton – both fourteeners – topping out at over 14,000′. A few miles southwest of Nathrop, CO at 8,400′ elevation. This is a fantastic area! I expect it is fairly busy… [Read More]

I am spending this week high in the Sawatch mountains of southern Colorado!  God is putting on a spectacular show for me! I am not far from Salida, CO on BLM managed land and am up at about 8,100′ of altitude.  The overnight lows are still very comfortable but one can feel that winter is not… [Read More]

Thar She SNOWS

November 18, 2015

mountain snow

Keeping the current theme going… We’ve got some snow!  The last couple days of storms here in central New Mexico were mostly just wind – lots of wind. However; I see some snow on the nearby mountains! I suspect winter may be getting close.
