Lake – Tahoe and Lahontan

October 26, 2017

Not a lot of news to report…

OH WAIT!!  There is news!

TODAY IS MY MOM’S BIRTHDAY!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM!!!

I took a few sunset photos last night of my current beach camping spot at Lahontan State Recreation Area near Silver Springs, NV.

The leaves on the trees are a nice gold color so clearly it is getting cool at night.  I suspect that I can’t stay here too much longer – at least if I want to avoid the real cold.

I was out cruising around in the airplane yesterday and decided to take a look at Lake Tahoe. That is one BIG LAKE!!

I didn’t realize it until today (looked it up) but Lake Tahoe is the largest alpine freshwater lake in the US and only the Great Lakes are larger by volume. It is also the second deepest lake in the US at 500′ deep (Crater Lake in Oregon being the deepest at about 600′).

Airplanes always run rough when flying over big lakes like that (or really scary land) and mine was no different. Since it was coughing and sputtering as soon as I got over the water, I decided not to fly all the way across the lake. Instead, I just hugged the shore line. It is a very pretty place – I now understand the appeal.  If we could just get rid of all the people and houses around it – it would be a REALLY great place!!

Of course, I only had my handheld computer with me – shooting thru the canopy, so the photos are not all that great.

Shhhhhhh….. Don’t spread that kind of information Amanda! I need to maintain a rough and rowdy persona or else the women may come flocking my direction.
