Cycling Water Pump

April 11, 2018

Short cycling is the term used to describe a water pump coming on for very short, quick burst, then back off and repeating – over and over and over.

Missy’s Shurflo water pump has ran great for months and months – almost a full year. Recently, however; it started short cycling.

Why??

It happened at the same time I did the annual water filter change. At least it seemed to… It had to be related, right??

It’s been bugging me for several weeks so it was time to spring into action.

Obviously, my spring has slowed a great deal over the years… 🙂

I pulled the pump out, removed the six screws holding the pump head together, and peered inside.

Yep – you guessed it. At least you did if you guessed that there was some junk inside the pump head. A couple small pieces of plastic were sitting there interfering with the action.

With all the filters in the system, how did this happen?

Well, believe it or not, these pieces of junk were nearly clear little chunks of plastic – the SAME material from which the holding tank is made. So, they were clearly in the tank when I installed it.

No… I know.. I know… I should have a water strainer between the tank and the pump (and then to the big filters).

Trust me, that strainer has now been ordered from Amazon.

Once installed, I am virtually guaranteed to never have any more junk come out of the tank!

Note from JD: Hold on!  This problem has NOT been solved.  More to come!

I will have to remember this! I am sure, some how, some way, this could happen to me!
