The Annual Purge

July 9, 2018

Once again, the annual purge and reorganization day(s) arrived much too quickly.

Nonetheless, I found a nice 100 degree New Mexico day and started pouring the contents of Missy’s basement out onto the ground.

The mess outside was immense. I guess that’s the downside of having a huge basement.  The following is NOT all of it – note there is still stuff in the basement…

The mess INSIDE was pretty good too. Remember the trip to the Dead Cow Dry Lake bed for the STOLDrag event? Yep – LOTS of dirt and sand made it into the basement and I’ve been carrying it around ever since. It was purged.

Things were going smoothly until about 9:30AM when the sun came around the corner and heated things up. Then I began moving very slowly…

I’d like to say that I threw out all of the things that had not been used in the last year.

But.…

I didn’t…

I have lots of construction stuff that will eventually be used on Missy – or MAY be used – and I just hate to throw it out.

I also have lots of skinny clothes that I’d like to think I may one day fit in again. I know… Forever the optimist. I’ve seen people transform from Frankenstein to Brad Pitt-like good looks. I’m on the waiting list for that…

I was very happy to eliminate EVERY cardboard box from the basement!!

YAY!

I did end up eliminating almost a whole trash bin (in the photos) of junk. That’s always rewarding.

My basement is now MUCH better organized and, once again, there is room to spare! Getting some slides installed and some permanently mounted storage bins (especially for tools and small stuff) would really help keep it organized. However; those things are still a little ways down on the to do list.

You may be saying… ‘what is this nonsense???’

If so, the book for you is ‘The Happiness Project’ by Gretchen Ruben. Your life will never be the same!

I wish I had taken pictures. Last Saturday I had everything out of the basement of JBAM for the same purpose. Yesterday, we were at Lowes and bought several plastic see through tubs to help our basement look as neat as
    yours now does.

Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don’t know and I don’t care.
