Houston, an airplane has landed!!
Yes indeed! A very brave friend of mine came out for a visit and was the first person to land on the new – nameless – airstrip.
I think that officially makes it an airstrip?? Right???
Here is some photo proof.
Note that his airplane has large Alaskan Bushwheels and is purpose built for rough, back-country type airstrips. I don’t think this airstrip is ready for a 737 yet. Or, for that matter, even my RV-4. However; there is progress!!
Actually, it’ll never be ready for a 737 – at least not as long as I own it. 🙂
Or, they come out with a very quite, short take off and landing 737.
Speaking of names… I’m looking for a good one.
Some of these won’t make any sense without some context, but, the ideas I like so far are:
- Kruuukid (as in crooked)
- Mile and Half High (references the altitude and pays homage to a neat airstrip in the Idaho back-country)
- Bendit (the crooked thing again and the high probably of bending one’s airplane if you use this airstrip)
- Witch Hill (Cerros Brujos is the name of the cinder cone)
Any brilliant ideas?? If so, let me know.

name suggestion: dust off

Boy Chris! Once you see the video of my friend taking off and landing – you will see how right you are!! PLENTY of dust! I’m hoping that goes away once I get the ground compacted.
