Review: Terry Saddle

September 8, 2012

Terry Saddle Liberator Y MTB Mountain Bike SeatI reported here that I had purchased a Liberator Y Terry saddle for my mountain bike.

The Terry saddle installed without any hassles. My existing seat post and seat clamp worked perfectly.  My saddle bag clamp also fit without any hassle.

For the first few miles, my behind kept asking question: “What in the world is this hard, strangely shaped thing underneath me?!?!?!” and “Why is this thing so hard??”.  I just ignored the questions and pressed on.  Like any relationship – I knew time was needed for all parties to get to know each other – and some fine tuning.

The fine tuning required several very small adjustments (nose down and fore/aft) before the questions from the rear stopped.

The “time” portion has been about 120 miles together… err… on??

Now?!?

I am very pleased. It is comfortable. I have adjusted out all the hot spots, and I have no soreness, numbness, or rawness after my rides.  Gotta LOVE that!

I am certainly not an expert but I can easily imagine that finding a properly fitting saddle can be difficult.  Because of this, I chose to purchase this Terry saddle from REI so I could easily return it and try something else if it didn’t work.  The other thing that I read a lot about on the cycling forums is tuning the seat – lots of adjustments.  I suspect that escapes a lot of folks.
