Rain, Rain and Monsoon Rain!

July 26, 2018

Lots of rain at the Hacienda! This is what the southwest calls the “monsoon season” and it is sure is!!

The weather guessers typically predict no rain – or a very low chance of it – and partly cloudy every day.

Every day big thunderstorms build in the early afternoon and drop rain. Sometimes LOTS of it.

I was terribly unprepared for this. I was warned and I should have known. In my defense, it is hard to think about an excess of water when it is hot and dry. It is the desert!! πŸ™‚

If you look closely at the photo above, you can see one of the large water/mud puddles. That is the road.

The problem that was created escaping the area to begin my trip to the far east. I was stuck due to the very muddy road!

Waiting patiently, a small weather window did eventually appear. The road seemed to be dry enough to pass, and I decided to an attempt an escape.

The escape was a success. That said; it was VERY close to being a failure!!

At one point, where I didn’t expect it, Missy’s rear tires slip thru the ‘dry’ appearing surface into some underlying mud.

GASP!!

All I could do was keep the throttle in and try to push thru it.Β  Having been stuck once, I really didn’t want to repeat the experience.

I got VERY LUCKY and we made it!

No, I didn’t stop to take photos. πŸ™‚

Here’s a photo I took after I got down the paved/main road a few miles. Clearly those tires were deep in the mud – someone was watching out for me! Thank you!!!

See all those clouds building into thunderstorms?

A few minutes after getting to the paved road, the rain started pouring.

What timing!

Leg one of the far east trip has been completed. This weekend I’ll work on leg two which should get us all the way back to Minnesota… in the far east.

Is it ignorance or apathy? Hey, I don’t know and I don’t care.
