Presents!

August 13, 2012

Alright, I admit it…  I still have the mind of a child.

I started riding my bike again, as previously blogged about, and suddenly my attention is on nothing but cycling.  I remember that happening was I was ten years old – go to a Star Wars movie and every waking moment was spent as a Jedi Knight for the next month.  Hmm… come to think of it, maybe that’s why we didn’t go to a lot of movies when I was young – my parents probably couldn’t stand the results.  Anyway… back to the topic…

I have been immersed in cycling, mountain biking, touring, etc… for the last few weeks.  I can’t seem to read enough blogs and reviews or watch enough how-to and race/story videos.  It is a serious problem.  I think its partially due to the amazing thing that cyclists are doing theses days – two year long tours around the planet, racing the 2700 mile long continental divide, even 100 mile sprints up and down the mountains!  I am in awe of these people and their accomplishments. I am learning a lot AND all of this has served to greatly encourage me to continue riding.  Most of my, nearly daily, rides are in the 12 mile range. However; I did do an 18 mile ride a week or so ago and am planning a long-ish one tomorrow.  My hands, wrists, arms, shoulders, and behind seem to be adapting and getting used to the new form of exercise. It is time to begin bumping up the distance/time.

To celebrate my success and encourage myself forward, I decided that some presents were in order. So, I went on a shopping spree!  A Bell MTB helmet, Ergon GP1-L grips, saddle bag, spare inner tube, CO2 tire inflator, and patch kit.  Yes, the pickle that the flat tire left me in (a short while back) has been on my mind.  The problem is, I am a thinker, a researcher – I like to analyze a problem and all possible solutions and then search for the best option for the money.  Perhaps that is just a necessity of not having a ton of money! 🙂  In any case, I am now equipped to deal with that problem should it occur again, I think!?!?!

LOL – being ready for something is usually the best way to ensure that it will never happen!
