Remember all that cash I invested in my septic system earlier this year? If not, it is chronicled here. In short, my lift station had collapsed and a whole new lift station was needed along with the lift pump, wiring, risers, pump out, etc…
Interestingly enough, the system started backing up again the other day. I could see moisture soaked ground around the septic tank risers so I knew something was wrong. I called the same company that did the initial work and they sent a technician to take a look.
After a few minutes of pumping out the very full lift station with a shop-vac, he found that the float on the brand new electric lift pump had failed. This float rises with the water level and tells the pump to turn on. The excess liquid is pumped up to the drain field. The float then signals the pump to shut off when the liquid is back down to the low level. I am in an area with a high water table so drain fields must be elevated – hence the need to pump up.
Thankfully, the pump was replaced under warranty. They are kind of expensive – like $250 if memory serves – so a freebie was very nice. Of course, I got the bill for labor but $100 to have my system back in operation seemed worthwhile. 🙂
