Breakfast in the Gila

January 28, 2019

This past Saturday was a beautiful day to go flying in search of breakfast.

I ended up near the Gila Wilderness Area at the Negrito backcountry airstrip in southwest New Mexico.

I met a couple of friends there and they just happened to have breakfast burritos and cinnamon cake!! How lucky am I!?!?!

It was fairly cool when we arrived so a campfire was priority number one! It took a while to get it going. Not being a fire expert, it surprises me how easy it is one time and how difficult the next. Regardless, it was eventually providing some warmth and we sat around and enjoyed it. After eating breakfast and warming up, we did a wee bit of hiking. Eventually, we had to pack up and head back to what folks like to call “civilization.”

On my way home, I swung by Bendit to check on conditions. The airstrip is still covered in snow but it doesn’t look like it’ll be too long before it is clear.

The snow covered mountain in the background is Mt. Taylor an old volcano.

While there was some wind at altitude which made for some bumps, it was another beautiful day to be flying!

Great Aerial Photos! Your open-fire breakfast sure looks inviting. Besides sharing breakfast with friends… it probably felt good getting away from your house innovation project. And, I’m sure very nice having your own hanger to come back to. We are having some winter ice and snow here in Ohio… but not to the degree it’s keeping me from walking to our local diner for breakfast with other ‘old-timers’.

CRAZY!! You must have some sort of vision problem – or maybe one of those curved monitors. 🙂
