I am seriously impressed by Drift Innovation! I purchased an older Drift HD 170 stealth digital video camera a year ago from one of the retailers. The camera worked well for several months and then started having a focus problem. At times, it seemed like it wasn’t too bad – just not sharp. This eventually… [Read More]
LED Bike Light
I don’t ride my bicycle in dark very often but when I do, I like to see where I am going. So, I always ride with a front and read LED bike light. I purchased a Blackburn Voyager 2.0 and Mars Click combo light set about six months ago from ChainReactionCycles.com. My experience with them… [Read More]
Solar Hot Tub Heater Part 2
Note from JD: This is a continuation of the previous post titled Solar Hot Tub Heater. The fourth day of testing the solar water heater (continued from above post): At noon, the outside temperature was 41 degrees when the system was first checked. The water that had been in the collector overnight was pumped into… [Read More]
ADS-B Equipment
Aircraft Spruce recently announced their new Freeflight XPlorer ADS-B Receiver. Very interesting product. It appears to be quite similar to the Stratus unit marketed by Sporty’s for the iPad. I’m anxious to see which of the Android aviation app providers interface to any of these units.
Edifi Tablet
Now here is a kewl product!! It is called the edifi MultiMedia Tablet from Family Christian. It is an Android tablet with some great apps pre-loaded PLUS it’s locked down to prevent access to the garbage on the Internet. I suspect this might be a great gift for kids! Time will tell.
Fuel Indicator Calibration
My Vans RV-3B has a fifteen gallon fuel tank and Princeton capacitance fuel quantity sensor in each wing. These sensors are connected to a Grand Rapids EIS. As long as I’ve owned her, the fuel quantity indications have been wrong. The fuel flow gauge has done an excellent job as a backup but the quantity… [Read More]
Stereo Music
Ipod, MP3 and satellite radio stereo music in the cockpit is finished and working!! I’ve been wanting a stereo music input in my RV-3 for awhile now. I had satellite XM/Sirius radio in my previous aircraft and love listening to my MP3 collection while flying. A few months ago I did the research and selected a… [Read More]
Delta 4 Launch
I’m a big fan of space flight – have been all my life. It seems we are launching rockets all the time and almost seems routine, almost. I don’t remember all that often but when I do, I try to watch whatever is being launched. Today, it was a Delta 4 heavy lift rocket. VERY… [Read More]
Electronic Flight Bag
There is at least one thing that all aviators agree on – folding sectionals (charts) in an aircraft while airborne is a pain! Throw in some turbulence, busy airspace, etc… and it can become REALLY fun. Now that I have a good Android Tablet computer (Samsung Galaxy Tab 2), I decided to try an EFB… [Read More]
Samsung Galaxy Tab 2
After my last experience with a tablet computer, I knew I wanted one. It just had to be better than my first cheap attempt. As a software developer, it was really important that I get some hands on experience with these units. That said, I sure didn’t have $500 to spend. So, I was really… [Read More]
