Playas

April 21, 2012

Had another very nice breakfast flight in the RV-3 to the Old Mill at Estancia, New Mexico yesterday with some friends.

Went out of my way a bit to fly over some Playas (dry lake beds) that are east of Estancia, NM.  It’s hard to tell if a person could land an aircraft on them or not.  It kinda looks that way but I’ve heard horror stories of people landing on dry lakes and then finding that there is a crust that they break thru, fall into, and are then solidly stuck.  I have not interest in doing that!! 🙂

Also flew down near the big array of wind generators (wind turbines, windmills, etc…). Looks like millions of dollars of equipment generating a few thousand dollars worth of electricity. Sure be nice if that “green” approach actually made sense.  Maybe someday technology will catch up and it will. In the meantime, they just destroy some beautiful, otherwise undisturbed countryside – that used to mean something to people.
