Independence Day

July 4, 2012

United States of America Independence Stars and Strips Flag EagleThe 4th of July is pretty big deal to all citizens of the United States. Or, it should be.

It is the day that we celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence which stated legal separation from Great Britain.  This was accomplished by the Second Continental Congress on July 2, 1776.

John Adams wrote: “The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”

I am very thankful to our founding fathers, citizens, & soldiers who sacrificed much so that we may have the greatest country on earth.  I am also very sad that over the generations, we have squandered what was bought at such dear a price. We continue to stray from our God in Heaven and the framework that created such a glorious country.  Every day we see our morals eroding, our country distancing itself from the creator of the universe, our Constitution being violated, and the political powers taking more and more away from the citizens and the country.  It is very sad indeed.

I pray on this day that our country will awake, realize how far we have drifted, and begin a return.  No, it will not be easy but nothing worth having ever is.
