Eggs and the Facts of Life

May 16, 2018

Eggs are a bit of an unknown. I suspect many of the city-slickers that read this blog are not completely aware of where things come from – such as chickens, cows, cats, rabbits, and so forth.

Warning: Adult content ahead!

To provide a bit of a ‘community service’, I’d like to help educate folks. I have a new “baby” here on the property and I thought it would be useful to share – maybe even enlightening to some.

In this case, two large eggs. Much like a chicken egg.

However and VERY amazingly, these are two eggs that when hatched, combine into a single organism. Very neat stuff! I know this is very uncommon. Take a chicken for example. Believe it or not, the same egg that you eat for breakfast could also become one single chicken. One egg, one chicken. Two eggs and some bacon? Breakfast!!

I know… gross. Thus my warning about adult content – just the facts of life here folks.

Here they are. I know… very odd shaped eggs.

I must admit that I do not know what the mother looks like or exactly how the eggs are produced. Not too difficult to imagine – I think most eggs come about nearly the same way, more or less. I received the eggs as… well… eggs – about like going to the grocery store and buying a dozen chicken eggs.

With a little TLC, these two eggs become this…

A giant storage building!

In this case, a 40′ wide, 80′ long, and 20′ tall fabric building.

Of course, these are very heavy eggs so I had to use my little trailer and make two trips.

The tractor was required to unload them without breaking. The last thing I need is to cleanup a broken building egg.

I was pretty undecided about what type of building to setup on the Hacienda but what is person to do when two big eggs show up? Refuse them?!?!

A little home-engineering will be required on one end wall to allow the RV-4 to fit in but that’s just good fun.

When will the hatching process begin??

Unknown… I have to get all my eggs in order…

Oh boy! That should be some fun. Have you ever heard of a “work party”. I understand that with a little word trickery you can get people to come work for free! I think you should try it!

HA! Yes, sadly, I have heard of those “parties” Pete! I think the originator of that term should be shot. 🙂 Several others have suggested the same thing. Windsock, fire-ring, fence, fabric building, picking rocks…. Can’t wait til my friends from WV come to visit!! 🙂

How many people were required to assemble it? Is it on a concrete floor?

Looks very nice. Is that front end loader yours now?

Could you get your Vans RV-? into it?

Hi Tom. It is not assembled yet – gotta get all my other eggs in a row! Will probably install it on dirt/gravel given the difficulty I’m having getting anything brought/delivered out here. I suspect concrete would be no different.

Yes, skip loader is mine. Its been a life-saver for doing all the serious work around here (airstrip, tree clearing, road maintenance, heavy lifting, etc.).

I’ve briefly put the RV-4 wheels on the airstrip three times. It is not yet ready for a full RV-4 landing/take-off. It is soft and the entire length is not quite ready. Still working on getting a roller/compactor and something to firm up the soil.
