It was driving me nuts. A click – nothing terribly significant, not even all that loud but I could not find it.
It only occurred while I was pedaling. Coasting sounded great. It was not exactly a consistent pattern but it was fairly regular. Hmm… isn’t a regular pattern the same as a consistent pattern??? Moving on….
I checked all adjustments.
I checked my chain. I lubed it. I almost ordered a new one but decided to hold off.
I checked the bottom bracket bearings then rechecked them and then checked them again.
Where was this crazy noise coming from?!?!? Argh!
I took a twenty-three mile ride over the weekend and I think I spent the majority of the ride pedaling along, staring at my feet/bottom bracket/chain rings like I might catch a glimpse of “the noise” or “see” the pattern. It didn’t work.
Finally, during a short ride around the neighborhood to walk the neighbors dog IT happened. I felt a little “notch” in my foot. Pedal?? I says.
Sure ‘nough! The metal cage on my cheapo pedal was loose. I tightened that puppy up and…
