I’ve never had great success with the parts and service departments of new car dealerships. I generally feel guilty about this as I am a DIY kinda guy and that is NOT the type of person that the service departments cater to. I think they like the fat wallet types.
My guilt was lessened the other day when I asked about the airbag warning light that was blinking on my dash. I was told that it could be reset for about $100. That seemed like an awful lot (every price they quote seems like an awful lot) so I did a bit of research. Turns out the “reset” process involves turning the key from off to on and back four times in about a 20 second period as described in this link on the Murano forums. I gave it a try and it worked just as described.
So, I had to get my calculator out. Assuming the service technician messes up the process twice before getting it right on the third try AND it takes him/her a couple minutes to walk to and from the vehicle, my math tells me that they are charging $1200 per hour!
Wow! No wonder their prices seem high!
