I am currently in New Mexico.
One might ask, why are you in New Mexico in September? Isn’t that still kind of hot?
Well, I’m glad you asked!
Yes, it is kind of hot. The weather guessers say it is only in the low 90’s each day but sitting out in the sun with Missy feels like the low 150’s!
However; there is a method to my madness!
Up until a couple weeks ago, I had been using a Wagan ProLine 5000 watt modified sine wave inverter. It worked fine. However; the internal cooling fan constantly cycled on and off – regardless of the amount of work it was doing. This really drove me crazy. Have I previously mentioned that I dislike noise?? If not, it is true – I really, really don’t care for it.
More problematic, the TruWave induction cooktop would not work with this modified sine wave and the Samsung refrigerator made a bit more noise. That was all enough to motivate me to switch to a true/pure sine wave inverter.
I decided I wanted a Go Power! GP-SW3000-24. This is a 3000 watt, 24 volt pure sine wave inverter. Less total power output but I had room to spare.
Amazon had a good price on refurbished Go Power! GP-SW3000-2 units so I ordered one. For the first time, they (Amazon) REALLY frustrated me!!
What arrived was a Go Power! GP-SW3000-12. I noted to them the incorrect model number on the box, on the unit itself, and returned it. While waiting for my money to be refunded, I placed another order – due to how the Amazon return process works. When the second order-item arrived, it was ONCE AGAIN, the GP-SW3000-12 – the WRONG one again. So, I returned it and was now waiting for a big chunk of change to be returned to me. After ordering the CORRECT item twice and receiving the WRONG item both times, my patience had ran out and I ordered a brand new unit – instead of the refurbished. Interestingly, I then received the correct model. Amazon is very good about returns and I did get all my money returned to me, it just took a little time (a reasonable amount).
In spite of the Go Power! Inverter having a lower total output, it is a physically larger unit. Thankfully, I had the necessary space and installation was pretty simple. A little re-wiring was required due to different wire lengths but nothing difficult.
So far, I am happy with the Go Power! Inverter. It runs nearly silent, the cooktop works, and the refrigerator seems happy.
I was organizing my basement the other day and I heard a very slight hum that I had not heard before. I started looking around and found that it was the cooling fan on the Go Power! Inverter. That was the first time I heard it in more than a week and it was only audible when sitting right next to it. VERY nice!!
I LOVE QUIET!! 🙂
So… what does this have to do with New Mexico heat you ask?!?
Well… isn’t it obvious?!? To properly test that the new inverter does not have a noisy cooling fan that runs all the time!
That said… I think it is time to find some higher ground (cool air!).
