This past Sunday, one of the scriptures referenced was Philippians 4:4-9.
Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
Life sometimes throws some interesting things at you. Ok, not interesting – actually, God working. I attended a Christian school and this scripture was one of the many that I memorized. Given the markings in my old Bible, it was October of 1983. Twenty-nine years ago!!
I have been VERY blessed in my life and have had MANY wonderful years for which I am very thankful. Things took a bit of a change a little over a year ago and, since then, just hanging on has been hard. This scripture, among many others, has been read many times during this time.
I am not much of a memorization kind of guy but I used to be… and am trying again. After all, it is the Sword of the Spirit.
