Huge Power

July 16, 2011

I drove nearly 1500 miles across the United States this week to attend my friends funeral in Minnesota.  I have done a lot of cross country driving over the years. Driving used to be a chore. In fact, my whole life was about the destination – not the journey.  I have mellowed with age, it seems.  However; I thoroughly enjoyed this drive. The mountains and plains and everything in between were beautiful.  The heartland has received a lot of rain this year and everything was green and lush.  I know this has caused hardship for many and I feel badly for those folks. However; it was clear that the vegetation was enjoying all the moisture.

One thing that struck me on this drive was the number of massive windmills that have been installed.  Wow!  I did not attempt to count but I would guess hundreds of them.  They are majestic and intriguing to someone that doesn’t seem them often. I can’t help and wonder what those that live with them in sight every day think about them.  Given the number of covenants, city and county ordinances, and varies “rules” that have been created to keep everything “pretty”, I wonder what fights occurred before and after all these things were installed. I know these electricity generation wind turbines are a form of renewable energy and that is a wonderful thing – when approached and funded correctly.   I’ll leave that for another day….

It’s a real burden, being right so often.
