$10 per Watt

June 1, 2016

I recently read an article about a person that added solar power to their “vehicle” (attempting to protect the innocent).

They installed approximately 400 watts of panels and paid nearly $10/watt!

shock surprise baby WOW!!!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news people but, with some shopping, rigid solar PV panels are in the $1/watt range (and less) and something around $4/watt for the flexible panels (though I don’t pay a lot of attention to the latter.

WOW – ten dollars per watt!!!

Obviously, just hiring out work and letting the “experts” do what they do is “convenient” but that has just never been how I operate. This is only annoying to me when those same people get on the forums and talk about how “expensive” solar power is.  In this case, I think their lack of knowledge (dare; laziness) was what ended up being expensive.

Remember a friends solar was installed by an Rv supplier ( no name will be mentioned ) and we found the system was not even connected to his battery bank. So here we were out in the boonies retiring his system! Another plug for do it yourself!
