LED Lights #3

July 9, 2011

My last attempt to order SMD LED festoon light bulbs from ebay resulted in very pretty blue light (previous posts are LED Lights and LED Lights #2 – hence the very original title of this post!).  The blue is very pretty and will work great at Christmas, 4th of July, etc… but not great for daily use.

I tried again.

I ordered ten total lights from Ebay seller “bestnbestonline”  for a grand total of $8.90. These are 39mm Festoon bulbs. These lights come from China and I am under no delusion about the quality or quality control. As you may have noticed, I am a cheapskate.  Paying $20-$30 for a light that I can purchase for 50 cents just does not sit well with me – even if I have to replace the cheap light significantly more often. Obviously, this is not true of something like the anchor light (way up at the top of the mast).  I probably did not make it clear in the earlier posts.  These LED bulbs are being used in the cabin for interior lighting.

The following is a photo of what I received.  The clear “glass bulb” is plastic but I don’t see any problem with that since LED’s do not produce any heat. I connected them to a 12 volt battery and they certainly produce a bunch of light.  I’ll see if I can figure out some sort of test to demonstrate how much light they produce.
