This is a bad post for one of my friends. You know who you are – please stop reading now.
I installed water filters on my house water supply line. I’m not a clean freak or germophobe but living for some years in my motorhome showed me how unclean water can be.
The following is the three-stage water filter assembly. There are three filters, each is 20″ tall. It’s pretty simply just connected to the supply line coming from the well. The water flows thru one filter then thru the second filter and then thru the third. The valves are in place to allow changing the filters without depressurizing the entire system.
These were installed almost exactly three months ago. I’m not living in the house but I spent a good bit of time in it and do use the toilets, one sink, and shower. So, I’m using some water but not as much as would be typical.
The three filters, in order of water flow, are sediment – sediment – carbon. So, remove most of the dirt and then remove some/most of the bad stuff (carbon).
I decided to take a look at the first sediment filter yesterday. Here’s what I found.
YUCK!!
The top-white filter is new. The other one is what I removed from the housing. The entire filter was dirty like that.
I don’t know if my well is typical – this is the first time I’ve put a filter on a well. However; I’m glad I did!!

I would have this well water tested. I grew up on a farm with a well and grew up, uh get it tested.

Unbelievable. I agree with Tom, get it tested. I live on ‘city’ water but outside of town. Even with their test results mailed to me showing clean water I will still get occasional ‘light’ brown water. Maybe I need to invest in a filtering system like yours. I use filters for water to cook with, make coffee and drink.

Yuck, wonder what ours looks like.
