A number of changes have occurred recently. No surprise right?!?! 🙂
House
Most significantly, I sold my house at the airpark. Chalk that up to another lesson learning about myself. I’m not a homeowner. No big surprise there. Purchasing it a couple years ago seemed like the right thing to do. It wasn’t, at least for me. I could probably ramble on about that for hours but I’ll spare you. The older I get, the more interesting personality types are to me. Clearly what one person finds important is not always shared by others. It’s obvious that I’m a bit of the wanderlust type that the nesting type. A change was necessary.
Airplane
I’ve rented a hangar for the airplane at the Truth or Consequences, NM airport and am I am hanging out in the area waiting to see what the world does with itself.
The following is a recent flying video. I don’t always note new videos here so be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel to get updates about the latest and greatest. Be sure to select HD quality and maximize the screen size!!
I’m staying at an RV Park in the area. RV parks are certainly not my favorite thing but it is fairly quite and “easy.” I guess maybe I needed a vacation from “hard.”
Cycling
Now that I’m in an area that is much more “cycling friendly”, I’m back to getting some miles on the bicycle. This is a very positive change!! Nowhere near the time and miles that I used to do but I’m slowly getting it back. My arm is generally not too happy about it but it isn’t allowed to have too much say in the matter.
An interesting change is that this area is somewhat hilly. I’m certainly not a hill climber so this presents a challenge. It is a welcome change and I think good for health & conditioning. I’m currently averaging 50-60 miles each week. As always, I expect to see immediate results – maybe losing 50 pounds over the weekend – and that has not happened. I’m not sure why…
Oh, that reminds me – I was scheduled for another arm surgery just before the virus thing exploded. The goal is to improve range of motion and then improve muscle tone. That’s now on hold.
Here is one of my better recent rides a 23 miler.
Before selling the house, I had three bicycles. My mountain bike (Specialized Stumpjumper FSR), a gravel bike (Specialized Diverge Comp), and road bike (Pinarello Dogma). Three bikes presented bit of a challenge when attempting to get back into the mobile style of living – the very common ‘too much stuff’ problem. With a two-door Jeep Wrangle, two bicycles fit in the back pretty well – not three. So, it was time to sell one of them. I REALLY loved that Pinarello road bike but my arm was least happy with it so I decided it was the one to go. So, I sold it. The Diverge is probably the better bike for me these days – particularly since many of the roads on which I ride are less than perfect. I’m still trying to convince myself – that Pinarello was so fast!!! I miss her!
Kayaking
I’ve done zero kayaking this year. The state government decided that kayaking is unsafe. A big thank you for them for protecting me and eliminating the need for me to worry about personal responsibility and safety. Things are much easier for me now and I obviously feel very safe. If they would now eliminate all the cars from the road, cycling would be much safer as well. I believe that is the goal, being safe, right?
Missy
I’ve not done much to Missy lately. The daytime high temperatures this week are in the 105 degree range and the air conditioners are working! I don’t think the ceiling air ducting is as efficient as they could be but I’m staying cool so can’t complain. Because of my rush to get moved into Missy (three years ago), I did some of the conversion out of order. I’m seeing the negatives of that now and sometimes wonder about ripping it all out and starting over again. However; that sounds like a lot of work and I’m not sure the gain is worth it. I fear such thoughts are indicative of a crazy mind running wild.

I thought the house was a keeper but wrong I was. Really enjoyed the video, nice rolls, and great flying. I do envy your airplane and wish I still held a medical. I subscribed and rang the bell.

Fantastic – thank you Thom!!

you sound like me … too many bikes. I have a Diverge also, some old road bikes and a new Trek road bike. Come on down where I live … great cycling, road or mountain bike. It’s the best cycling I have ever lived near and that compares to southern California on the beach and up at Whidbey Island WA. I’m back blogging again.

Very interesting Steve! Sounds like you are enjoying your new digs. I really enjoy the southwest for all but a few weeks each year. Even then, there are some nice places to escape to (elevation).
