I made a day trip to Amarillo, TX earlier this week. On the way home, I took these photos of some storms over east-central New Mexico. A very pretty flight home!
Two Fly-In Weekend
This past weekend I had TWO fly-in options. What else could I do but attended both of them! Crazy!! I know… The first was the New Mexico Pilots Association Gila Fly-in at Reserve, NM which was Friday thru Sunday. The second was the annual Quickie/Q2/Q200 Field of Dreams Fly-in at Enid, OK which was Thursday… [Read More]
2018 Far East Trip
The 2018 Far East Trip is officially “ON”!! In general, New Mexico to Minnesota for a family wedding and some time at the home office. Then to near St. Louis to visit more family. Then, who knows… Maybe to Ohio to visit more family… Or… maybe I’ll have had enough of the far east and… [Read More]
Lightspeed Sierra Headset
Some of my flying mates have been complaining – LOUDLY – that something was wrong with my aircraft communication. The electronic bits… not my mouth/English/verbiage bits… I’ve been using a Quiet Technologies Halo in-ear headset for a number of years and really like it. There is no clamping pressure on one’s head, it is very light,… [Read More]
Another Backcountry Flying-Camping Trip
Three airplanes and five folks (including me) headed to the Idaho backcountry on June 22. This is a bit later than normal for us due to job constraints. This actually worked well for me as it provided a bit of time to get the Grand Rapids EIS engine monitor installed. We weren’t sure what to… [Read More]
Too busy to share??
The past couple weeks have been busy, busy, busy… Afraid I don’t have time to give details right now but a few photos may give you a hint as to my activities. Don’t worry – I’ll fill you in on all the gory details soon! 🙂
High Back-Country Breakfast and Flight Testing
Most aviators operate their aircraft at airports/airstrips that are at relatively low altitude. This is good because there air is dense down low. The denser the air the more power the engine is able to make and the more lift the wings are able to produce. The higher you go, the thinner the air becomes… [Read More]
Early Morning New Mexico
Another early morning breakfast flight and another opportunity to behold God’s spectacular creation. New Mexico isn’t for everyone (thankfully!!) but I sure do like it! The photo above is one of the many small volcanoes in the area south of Grants, NM know as the ‘Chain of Craters‘. There are a whole slew of cinder… [Read More]
Reposition the whole enchilada – Nevada to New Mexico
The last month has had me busy searching for a winter “home”. Owning an airplane has dramatically changed my “simple” life and I knew that staying in Carson City was not an option (it get’s cold and white there!). A big part of finding a winter home was finding a hangar for the plane. I… [Read More]
Reserve Breakfast
Last weekend a friend asked me to fly to breakfast with him in his Cessna 195 – a beautiful antique airplane! We made an experimental trip to Reserve, NM and found a great little airport and some wonderful food! The following video is a short production of the trip. Thanks Dave!
