Internet Speed Test

January 20, 2012

My current home is in a rural area south of Albuquerque, NM. Century Link (formerly Qwest) is the only land-based Internet service provider. They charge $76.80 per month for a “High Speed Internet” DSL line.  All of my neighbors complain of terrible performance and we all suffer from terrible performance after any good rain.  The following are the results of speed tests on my connection.  Hardly seems worth $80 per month!  We all complain and ask for help, Qwest/Century Link has nothing to offer but empty promises.  Perhaps they should run for public office?!?!

My advice, avoid Qwest/Century Link if you are in this area.

    Hello,
We would like to take a look at this account for you. The pricing for internet that you quoting seem way off (reviewed pricing as of 01/31/2012). We have offers in that range, but they include a voice line, features on the voice line, up to 7 Meg/896k DSL service and unlimited domestic long distance in the US and Canada and that has a price lock on it for 5 years, no term or contract commitment on your end, very competitive. If you are seeing 1.33 on a 1.5M connection, that is not optimal but not far off the mark. We can look at this too, just to make sure there isn’t anything we can do to improve to get it at or above the stated provisioning. Please send you account info and address to TalkToUs@CenturyLink.com
    Regards,

So, Steve, I believe you are admitting to overcharging me (for the last six years)? If so, please issue my refund.

Your offer is nice but nothing more. Many people in my “subdivision” have complained and asked for help. They have even taken the problem to the PRC. Nothing matters. You guys claim you want to help and end up saying that there is nothing you can do and that we should be happy with the service that we have.
