It has been a windy spring this year so when a weather window opened up last weekend I was off to the Utah backcountry!!
The goal was to enjoy the amazing sights that is southeast Utah. The backcountry flying there is spectacular!!
Here is the first video of this trip – more to come!!
A two hour flight first thing Friday morning put me over Monument Valley and it only got better from there. JB met me at Cal Black and hauled me into the Nokai Dome backcountry airstrip which isn’t fit for my airplane. We spent a marvelous day there enjoying the quiet and then back to my airplane, over Lake Powell to Escalante (1L7) where we camped for the night. Two other Van’s RV’s from San Diego were also camping there.
Utah Aviation and the RAF have created a really nice setup at Escalante with a pavilion, camping facilities, pilot lounge, restroom, shower, coffee, etc.! Very nice!!
I was off again the next day to get several hours of video of what must be some of the most amazing sights on this planet. Simply breathtaking!! I enjoyed every second!
I landed at the Simplot backcountry airstrip and enjoyed a few more hours of quiet with friends.
Of course, I couldn’t stay here forever so had to zip back home Saturday afternoon. The mid-afternoon trip was far from smooth and delightful but after the morning’s experience, it was impossible to complain!
