Many months ago, a read a discussion on an RV forum about using a digital media player to play/watch digital movies on a typical television. I was very interested as I had started building a digital movie library in hopes of soon living on a sailboat. A big stack of DVD’s is NOT what I wanted.
After a bit of research, it was time to experiment. I chose about the cheapest media player that I could find on Amazon.
I quickly put this little guy to work and have been impressed!
Firstly, it is SMALL! I love that!
Next, it has HDMI output so very easy to connect to any modern TV.
Next, it accepts both USB cards/memory sticks and SD/SDHC memory cards.
Finally, it only requires 5 volt power so it is very easy to connect into your 12 volt system (with a little 5V regulator) so running the inverter is not necessary (unless it is needed for the TV). It does include a typical wall wart transformer so that the 110 volt power approach works as well.
After having watched many movies using this media player, I can tell you that it works well. I’m not an audio/visual snob so can’t stay that I am looking for or that this media player provides the most high-end output or purest experience possible. For watching a digital movie/show, it works wonderfully. Of course, some of that has more to do with how the movie is digitized than anything else – and that is an entirely different topic.
