Another amazing spot – this one in the Gunnison National Forest.
I am setup near Brown’s Creek in the shadow of Mount Antero and Mount Princeton – both fourteeners – topping out at over 14,000′. A few miles southwest of Nathrop, CO at 8,400′ elevation.
This is a fantastic area! I expect it is fairly busy in the summer given how amazing it is. But right now – it is super quiet and peaceful! I am pushing my luck as winter could arrive here at any moment. The overnight temperatures have been about freezing this week but the forecast is for some warmer weather. In any case, winter is not far off! I suppose if the worst case were to happen, I could call on my friends to fly up and air drop some supplies to me. 😀
Buddy seems to be thoroughly enjoying his outside exploration time. He has started heading off much further than I would like but he is his own boss and doesn’t pay much attention to me. He came marching back recently with a mouse looking thing in mouth. I watched thru the window a while to see what would happen and he ended up dropping it and then marching around and staring at it. I eventually went out to see what was going on. It appeared to be what we call a “gopher” in New Mexico which is more like a mole than any Gopher I ever saw in Montana or Minnesota. Anyway, it was holding its own and prepared to bite whatever came close. So, Buddy must have decided that it was not as much fun to play with as originally thought. They eventually went their separate ways.
I too saw a wild animal the other day! It was either a Jackrabbit the size of a Moose or a Moose that ran like a Jackrabbit!
I’ve not been out exploring on the mountain bike yet due to the cool temperatures but I will do so very soon!!
